Law Office of Brenda Wahler

A small boutique practice

Brenda Wahler is an attorney and mediator in Helena, Montana with a solo practice focused on but not limited to family law throughout the lifespan. An experienced and engaging public speaker, Wahler also presents Continuing Legal Education (CLE) programs as well as presentations with history-informed law (or law-informed history)

About

The Law Office of Brenda Wahler focuses on the needs and interests of people across all stages of life, including representation of non-traditional families. Wahler has additional experience handling child protective services cases and also is qualified to serve as a mediator and a guardian ad litem (GAL).

In addition to advocacy for children and families, Wahler understands that many people view their companion animals as family members, not just property. This perspective is particularly important in cases involving guardianship, division of assets in divorce, children's property, or end-of-life planning. Her animal law practice includes pet trusts, sale and lease contracts, property/covenant consultation, estate planning, and safety. While she does not handle tort claims, Wahler provides consultation on liability and other legal disputes involving animals.

Admitted to the State Bar of Montana and the Federal District Court of Montana, Wahler has practiced law since 2002. She earned her law degree from the University of Montana School of Law (now the Alexander Blewett III School of Law).

Wahler is past president of the First Judicial District Bar Association and past chair of the Law-Related Education Committee of the State Bar of Montana.

Prior to entering private practice, Wahler was an attorney for the state of Montana, first with the Montana Department of Labor and Industry and then with the Child and Family Services Division of the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services. She earned her law degree following a career as a high school social studies teacher, served as state director of the Montana YMCA Youth and Government Program for 10 years, and has taught college history, political science, and paralegal courses.
